Track Eleven: The Letter

“When the taste of your lips is doing nothing to me..."

Sometimes you’re in a dating relationship and it just isn’t right for you. If you’re like me, though, you’re so loyal it’s to a fault. You stay WAY longer than you should, hoping for the light. You think that maybe you’ve got it wrong and that things will be different soon. But when you kiss him, you feel nothing.

“When I'm so scared and so guarded that I forget to breathe
One look in your eyes tells me it's not fair”

Sometimes you go to date a guy that you’re totally crazy about, but it just doesn’t feel right. You have this sneaking suspicion that you’re missing part of the story, that your gut is uneasy for a reason. You wonder if you’re just paranoid, if your instincts are wrong, and yet… you’re guarded and can’t fully relax around this guy like you’d like to.

Then you find out you’re not his only girlfriend. Great, right?

That’s what this song was written about.

“I'm feeling like I'm falling but it's not for you
I'd love you forever, baby , but you're lying to me"

I found myself in this on-and-off relationship with a boy who never treasured my heart. In fact, he broke up with me because I wouldn’t sleep with him, and then went and got what he wanted from my so-called friends. It took a couple times of that pattern for me to recognize what it was. It took years to realize that he really just wasn’t that great, and that I can do better. If that’s not ridiculous enough, one of the times, he literally broke up with me over text on April Fool’s day. How’s THAT for a sign?

How many times do we all do that, though? Maybe not this exact situation, but other kinds where we keep beating our head against the wall, trying to make it move. But in the end, we back up and realize the doorway was close by and we could have saved A LOT of headache had we just stopped to think.

I know I definitely have to learn lessons the hard way, sometimes. The hardest lesson I’ve ever had to learn was how to let go. Honestly, I’m still working on it. But for now, I’m thankful that I can recognize when it’s time for a change… cuz life can be better.

“Now I know, it's time to let go"
